For a large portion it was always an act for the censors. Sure, there is a small portion of users that really think words are violence, but most are just baiting you (and it doesn't work here). I don't know if you've ever heard the AHS leak where the leaker points out that they were totally fine with spamming cp onto subreddits that they wanted banned, but it gives a really good insight into the mindset of these types.
