A fun thing is to google “natural way to ward off [any household or yard thing]” and see the interleaved results between “oh yes take a pinch of cinnamon, toss it over your *right* shoulder, and results are guaranteed” and “spices will never work, you *must* use our Poisonator Maxxx and smear it directly under your nose”Can’t wait to see what Bing AI will tell me

@jbj “Some people say cinnamon, others say Poisonator. In the end, you’ll need to decide for yourself.”

@TedUnderwood @jbj did we really even need an LLM to generate that answer? I do wonder if the search environment ultimately curtails the generalization possibilities of LLMs so much as to make them a very limited value-add...

@afamiglietti79 @jbj Search engines are pretty good at search! I think LLMs are still struggling to add value in that domain, and to really succeed they may need a more structured chain-of-thought approach than Bing is now using, breaking down the question into parts. Right now it doesn't do that, even for questions with a comparative structure (cheaper to fly out of X airport or Y?) where the breakdown is obvious.

@MattHodges @afamiglietti79 @jbj Oooh — thanks! — maybe I just did a bad job of prompting. Or possibly it's that I'm running the "creative" personality, which is better suited to other tasks. Should try the others.

@TedUnderwood @afamiglietti79 @jbj Does the desktop interface show the “Searching for:” bits? I find those delightfully illuminating. (I only use mobile because Edge wreaked havoc on my Mac)

@MattHodges @afamiglietti79 @jbj Yes, it shows "searching for." I love it, e.g. when I say "rewrite that with more irony" and it goes "searching for: how to add irony."
