Hustle culture bozos on LinkedIn are always like "you have to read 3 books per day before noon” and “knowledge is power" but then their suggestions are just junk written by former Navy SEALs about how sleeping in phases and eating sticks of butter butter will make you a "gorilla in the boardroom." Uh, I'm not even sure if we agree on goals here.

@andrew It is an exact parallel to recipes on blogs. They are idealized to the point of not only being impractical, but being hyperbole that no one but an independently wealthy person with endless spare time could attempt.

@amerika “How I eat now that I have a book deal to write about how I eat." And it should still probably be shelved in the fiction section.

@andrew The YouTube grifters took it to the next level, but in the 1980s, the self-help section was booming. It seemed to hybridize with just about every other genre of book, especially in the writing style. They use the same language in the grifty appeals these days, including the "rugged self-reliance" appeals that you speak of.

@andrew My guess is that it is similar to how spammers intentionally misspell words in order to attract people who are credulous and not detail-oriented.Grifty self-help YouTubers want to find the credulous who are looking for a cult to join and then manipulate them.It is really not much different than NXVM, the Moonies, Rashneeshis, or the Apple userbase.

@andrew I loath #LinkedIn. I feel fortunate that I've been able to completely ignore LinkedIn for the past several years but I'm not in a position where I can delete my profile. I'll know I'm free on the day I delete my LinkedIn profile.

@lizard I log in and read posts and just feel like I’m witnessing the death of … something. Culture? Self awareness? Irony maybe?

@andrew I have a strong disdain for almost all social media but there is something that really annoys me about #LinkedIn. It is the height of corporate douche baggery. For some reason that bothers me more than intentionally addictive platforms that collect all your personal data and use it for nefarious purposes.
