Started the process of migrating my VM over to @beasts from Bytemark; I've selected a 'VPS2' with a bit more added disk than my existing VM; it seems a bit faster (even if it's still apparently a Sandy Bridge if it's emulated CPUID is to be believed). Now, a load of DNS and domain twiddling to be done.

@penguin42 The Raspberry Pi hosting option is intriguing. I wonder if there is something ARM/Pi-specific that attracts people or maybe because it's a cheap way to get 4 cores.https://www.mythic-beasts.com/order/rpi

@stefanha Yeh I considered that, but guessed that the IO on it would be as good. I do have one of the free Oracle cloud VMs that they were giving out a while ago that is a 4 core ARM x 24GB RAM . (Although being free I don't put anything useful on it since I'd probably have to pay a lot for any actual other services)

@penguin42 It says it's set up to netboot from NFS.

@stefanha As opposed to the x86's that are chunks of SSDs that somehow arrive as virtio-blk

@penguin42 Yep. Still curious what people are using them for.

@penguin42 Bytemark has been rubbish since it became IOMart. I miss Bytemark. I have considered switching to Mythic Beasts but I noticed they don't let you upgrade a virtual server yourself, you have to email them. How has your experience been so far?

@benfrancis I can't complain much about IOMart, I mean my BigV VM is still there and OK at the moment. Mythic seems to have been pretty good in the few hours I've used it; I've created and installed a VM, and created 3rd party DNS for my (less critical) domain; the web domain name editor is pretty decent (couple of quirks). One neat thing about their login system is the ability to connect multiple accounts with limited perms; so I connected another with a backup email address.
