       Second year in a row that the back cracked on my iPhone. Can’t wait until they figure out a way to stop making the backs out of glass. What a terrible material for a phone frame in every regard other than allowing for inductive charging.

       @gruber never happened to me and I’ve been using a caseless iPhone since the beginning: 2G, 3G, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, X, 13 mini

       @gruber Two things:1. Inductive charging has become pretty important, and I don’t see Apple returning to unapologetically plastic.2. Have your birdies suggested that the back glass fails at lesser impacts to help protect the more expensive front glass?

       @drdrang @gruber I trust you’re not suggesting that Glass deforms lines of magnetic force less than plastic does.

       @chidgey @gruber What I’m suggesting is that Apple wouldn’t use plastic even though it’s an obvious alternative to glass.

       @drdrang @gruber Of course. Their reasons aren’t predominantly materials science based, rather the “feel” of glass is nicer in the hand. There’s a reason no other major mobile phone manufacturer made their phone backs from glass before Apple. Maybe plastic is just more durable and it’s worth the tradeoff.
