I've noticed and heard that some people don't see all the replies on posts, but I don't believe I have this problem. Why don't they see them all? Is it related to the server they're on, or the interface they use, or something else? And is there an easy fix?#feditips #TwitterMigration

@grammargirl Not sure if this is a bug or throttling

@grammargirl I also don't have this problem but it's possible a server people are on isn't federated with the server people are replying to you on.If people look at the original post they can press the overflow button and choose to see the original post on the original server, which will have all the replies

@grammargirl Usually for me it's because I failed to notice!

@grammargirl This is unfortunately how it works, and is a bigger problem for folks on smaller instances. There are a few tickets open on the Mastodon GitHub repo about this, so I'm hoping it will get sorted out, until then you just have to open posts from other instances at the original URL.

@stefan Thanks! I sure hope it gets changed! I would like Mastodon a lot less if I wasn't seeing replies.

@grammargirl Some might have to do with the privacy level set on the reply. Otherwise, I have no idea.

@grammargirl it's by design/Fediverse limitation depending who you speak to.https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/14017

@grammargirl Yeah, Mastodon is still a bit rough around the edges. Still, beats being on Twitter!

@grammargirl there does seem to be client side (ie your side) fixes and solutions proposed. It'll take time for them to be accepted and merged into the software though, and probably a little longer for them to make it to third party apps etc. But, it looks like solutions are being considered

@grammargirl A lot of this has to do with federation. I’m glad that I migrated to a custom server for myself, but often times my server has either not been able to get data from other servers, or is slow enough at doing it that it makes no difference.

@grammargirl I heard of someone with their ivory app set to media only… they saw very little. I don’t have this problem but I’m on a big server.

@grammargirl My understanding is that you are only guaranteed to see all the replies when you open the original post. Otherwise, you'll only see the replies that people on your local server have either posted or viewed, e.g. if you just look at a reply, there may well be other replies above or below it that you won't see unless you view the original post and scroll down.Huge caution, this explanation may be completely wrong as both my knowledge and experience are limited.
