If a big company is threatening to move their operations when they cannot get a tax deal in the country they're in I can only say...GOOOOOOOD BYE! Why should mega corps pay less tax than small businseses like me? How about reverse the shizzle and tax more if a company earns billions :ablobcatbongotwitter: Don't care how many jobs you facilitate, it's a big fuck you

@stux absolutely right! We need to stop those backroom deals with big corporations. They do not need a special tax offer. Small companies need relief, often it is their very existance which is threatened by too much tax. We need to stop to distribute wealth from poorer ppl to the rich!

@stux yes, I see your point. However, they do pay more Tax by default because of their footprint. And if a company is foreign, it's extra money rolling in the State's Tax Agency.

@stux @calculsoberic I can explain: as government it's easier to work with a single megacorp than many many individuals. The hope is that the jobs created and contracts procured (rent, office furniture, etc.) will lead to spending in the local economy, a quick win in time for elections.I'm not saying it's the right approach, but having been in the room to figure out economic policy, this is how the thinking goes.

@stux i think big companies that take their jobs overseas to avoid taxes should have to pay a huge fee to bring them back to sell in the US. It's ridiculous how billionaires don't pay taxes or affordable incomes. There needs to be better opportunities for young people in the U.S.

@stux When companies say "we'll move from your state" the states need to seize their property and arrest every member of management the company and put them on trial for tax evasion.

@stux +9001% it's legalized blackmail and IMHO all revenue should be taxed where it's being generated. The fact is that all regulations to avoid tax fraud is only flexing against small businesses, not big corporations. And yes, I think that if necessary the GAFAMs need to be banned from offering their businesses if they aim to commit tax fraud.

@bananarama @stux that is the problem as it allows for false profit reduction using ficticious "licensing fees" that solely are done to commit tax fraud with bookkeeping tricks.

@kkarhan @stux It could be anything, licenses are easy and efficient though. It's not tax fraud though. There have been cases of tax fraud, but the accounting schemes you're describing are not fraud.A plausible solution is to make it much more difficult for tax havens to exist and level the playing field for tax rates across the world, which is already in progress. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2021/11/global-minimum-tax-rate-deal-signed-countries/

@bananarama @stux Depends.I think banning said accounting trick by just creating absurdly high "licensing fees" out of thin air to reduce the profits to 0 can be sone and would be far easier.

@kkarhan @stux OECD knows what they're talking about. Banning a specific accounting trick has been done before, it isn't particularly effective. You should give the policies a read.https://www.oecd.org/tax/transparency/
