@brendannyhan Maybe Karl knows something that I don't, but I'm not aware of Rufo being an employee of any university. He's an activist that basically invented the fake threat, and branding of CRT, as the bogeyman for looney right wing droolers, but he's not in a position of power within academia. No doubt, he's dangerous, and his voice has a reach that it shouldn't.

@fansy Germany has done a good job in purging the bad past from the culture`; education, laws, etc. Russia, not so much. Putin has been rehabilitating Stalin, the whole "great patriotic war" and glorious past have created a nostalgia for a mythical past.

@fansy @edgeoforever because nazi germany was only a thing for about a decade and it resulted in the complete destruction of the country, while the USSR was a thing for three generations and its downfall was pretty mild in comparison

@fansy . Putin eschews ideology and first consolidated his power with the GOP (NRA, evangelicals), then tankies like you. Although you seem to not like him now, which I appreciate. I lived under communism and ran away. No nostalgia here. All totalitarians are the same.

@fansy youdo know that Putin was KGB - a communist apparatchik- before being handpicked by senile Yeltsin. Who was unaware of his resume of blackmail/pilfering up to this point. Or, maybe didn’t care. No anti-communist propaganda. Russia never took ownership of any atrocities they committed in history. Not even under the czars.
