We are working for safer roads with our road safety proposal. This package includes measures like an EU-wide digital driving license, zero-tolerance for drink-driving, and stronger cross-border enforcement rules to make our roads safer for all. With over 20,000 people losing their lives on EU roads last year, these proposals are critical to achieving Vision Zero - zero deaths on EU roads by 2050. @EU_Commission That feels like great news. I hope that the implementation of the digital driving license can properly handle the different alphabets that are in use in the EU, and that it doesn't fully replace the physical ones. In the bigger picture, I'd love to see a unification of road traffic rules across the union, since inconsistencies are a source of danger (e.g. roundabouts in Greece).

@EU_Commission Can we just use the tech we have in platforms in lieu of yet another bespoke solution?

@EU_CommissionI cannot agree with this:Sleepy driver is more dangerous than guy with one beerSpeeding does not kill - it's the driver, who failed at driving

@EU_Commission Would such a digital license be based on open and interoperable standards? It's a concern for any potential challenger to the Apple-Google duopoly, phones are becoming mandatory for daily life, but very often hostile or unwanted security measures limit what operating system the user is allowed to install and prevent usage of emulators and interoperable software. Government app lock-in could cement dominance of these platforms even more than mobile banking

@EU_Commission having in mind the current climate and economic policies it will be quite possible to have 0 accidents in europe by 2050: there won't be anyone left ...the picture suggests we'll need a "smart"phone to carry our driving licence: one giant step for text and drive for big brother.we'll do just fine ....

@EU_Commission First fatal car accident was in 1869. How exactly do you imagine 0 victims in 2050? Unless you plan to reduce number of vehicles to almost 0 as well... And call me old school, but I prefer the plastic card. Even now traffic police has all the data electronically stored somewhere. Me having my license with me should be just a formality.

@EU_Commission None of the changes you propose address the stated problem. They only empower intrusive surveillance and racism. If you want to make roads safer, consult traffic engineers. They will tell you things like: separate traffic by mode, lower speed limits, use traffic calming, reduce numbers of adjacent lanes, and other, cheaper, more effective measures than any of the cop sop your post mentions.good luck i guess
