Jack Dorsey is making Bluesky because he regrets that Twitter banned Donald Trump, and he wants to make it harder for social media platforms to enforce moderation. Maybe he doesn't like Mastodon because moderation is easy?https://gizmodo.com/jack-dorsey-twitter-bluesky-social-media-elon-musk-1850170011@fediversenews

@atomicpoet @fediversenews but won't it be impossible for trump to be banned in mastodon? He will just move to a different server and all his followers will still be able to read his tweets and spread them.

@absrb @atomicpoet @fediversenews While it would be impossible to boot Trump from the network entirely, it would be easy for people to block him any time he got a new handle somewhere, and it would also be easy for people to block any server he started on his own. Heck, there are a few genuinely horrible places on Fedi (like the places with horribly illegal content) that you never hear about because they are so completely blocked. If Trump were to join Fedi, he'd probably end up in his own isolated portion *very* quickly. On the other hand I have no idea what moderation BlueSky uses, or how it will work in practice.

@absrb You're describing Truth Social. Truth Social is based on Mastodon. That said, Trump has *chosen* to de-federate from the rest of the Fediverse. So interpret that as you will.

@atomicpoet @absrb I wonder why. It seems to me that federation would be all upside for them - much greater reach, and not all instances would block them.
