Hi Mastodon! I haven't forgotten about you. It turns out that having a new baby and being a showrunner at Netflix is very time-consuming. WHO KNEW?In the meantime, here's an old comic about why I am bothered by the word "queue."

@oatmeal This abundance and generosity in superfluous letters is a classic signature of French words 😉Queue means the same here in France as in English, but also means Tail (eg. for animal) or in slang male genitals. No wonder why no one translated Tails from Sonic to Queues in French 🤣 Btw, any shaped things like that are Queue here; 'Piano à Queue' (grand piano), Queue de pie (Magpie tail). We also have a fun expression "à la queue leu leu" that adds free "leu" just to tell "to the queue".

@davidrevoy @oatmeal What is it with French and extra letters that don't add sounds?

@coin No idea 🤣 But I want to believe in a sort of conspiracy of French medieval printers who increased the length of French words with random letters just to increase the page counts of books and so, increase also their benefits. 🙃 @oatmeal
