       @harpyharpyharpy @EmmyNoether @com0ddity @taylan @moffintosh Speaking of Christianity, one thing that ALWAYS confused me was how people thought about Mary Magdalene (never mind that the Bible doesn't explicitly state she was a prostitute). But there was always this, "oh, she's a REPENTANT WOMAN!" and there was all this art with her being repentant. I never understood it. Because I didn't consider what she did a crime. Yes I looked down on her and thought she was gross and "bad" (keep in mind I was still growing up), but I didn't think she was DANGEROUS or malevolent. I saw her mostly as a tragic victim. I was like, "she's already BEEN punished. The punishment was prostitution. She was touched by those men. She's already paid any debt she might have had." Also I never got the association with Mary Magdalene and sex. Because to me, prostitute is the OPPOSITE of sexual. It's anti-sexual. Maybe for the sex buyer it is sexual, but not at all for the prostitute, except maybe for male prostitutes who get an erection to work but even male porn stars use drugs to get/stay hard. It kind of pissed me off and at this age it still makes me angry because that's what I see reflected in the rhetoric of the term "swerf." IT just makes no sense to me. It seems wilfully obtuse. It's adding insult to injury. It's blaming women for what is obviously their own victimization when we paint them as somehow "bad" or "malevolent" or even "sexual." Because again, prostitution doesn't seem remotely sexual for the prostitute.

       considering that what sex workers want is the ability to operate legally from a house/office with security/surveillance, receive appropriate medical diagnosis/treatments, and the ability to call the cops when patrons get out of hand, I don't see how doing that would really harm sex trafficking victims. but if you can point to some government policy which both persecutes sex workers and has demonstrably reduced sex trafficking, by all means, I'm interested to learn of it.

It would be odd if she was since she was also of the House of David and quite wealthy and educated. For some reason, that part is often forgotten.
