Just a friendly reminder: Dutch cycling lanes are used for commuting and as an actual way of transport this is something tourists mostly don't understand when they're taking selfies standing on the bike lane or trying to ride a bike when they don't know how to cycle. You're not doing those things on a regular highway either right

@stux Lanes like that in America barely exist... I happen to see quite a few cyclists riding their bikes on the sidewalk, since there aren't any bike lanes

@stux yeah I learned that the minute our taxi from Schiphol dropped us off in front of our hotel and we had to cross a bike lane to get to the curb. Unlike in the States, pedestrians are required and expected to yield to bikes in Nederlands.

@stux In Denmark there’s normally a pavement, a curb and a bike lane, a curb and the road. The difference in levels seem to prevent the problem. Greetings from someone who has fooled around on dutch bike lanes.

@stux I have fond memories of riding a bicycle in Amsterdam centre (high school trip)- and having my hand, on the handlebar, grazed by a passing garbage truck (I was surprised, but fine)...lol-- the traffic on the streets even was assuming a solid level of competence from cyclists..lol.. here it can be weird-- they either think you are the same as a car, or like an old person with a walker....

@stux I met a funny guy that told me the bike lanes where dangerous, because they are too close to the houses, like only 3 meters, and you had to cross them to get into your car 😂
