Nostr images can be hosted on any web server including your own.Public service image hosting will not be forever free. To be sustainable they should charge tiny amounts of sats to guarantee quality of service. This arrangement is very capitalist and properly aligns incentives to enable a decentralized network to be sustainable.

There needs to be a NIP for clients to support hosted media on nostr. You should be able to just specify a compliant hosting service in your client, or host your own. The NIP could specify a simple interface for uploading media and returning a URL.

Good to know. Will relays ever support uploading files? This is bad for the user experience to not be able to upload files easily from the nostr client. Every other alt-tech supports this

Yes just like every other alt-tech. The relay hosts and stores it or supports offloading to S3. Why does Nostr have to destroy the user experience?

I doubt it would be a thing for relays. Nostr is meant to be a text protocol and I don’t think anyone wants to change that. I assume most protocol developers would prefer that non-text be stored in a different service and clients would just hide that from the user.

This is just another red flag for regular users to avoid Nostr because of usability and fragementation
