Thought of the day, courtesy of #slackware fortune:"As long as there are ill-defined goals, bizarre bugs, and unrealistic schedules, there will be Real Programmers willing to jump in and Solve The Problem, saving the documentation for later."And this is like... My entire professional life, right here.(Substitute 'sysadmin' for 'Real Programmers' as appropriate)

@ParadeGrotesque Getting flashbacks to a colleague who loved making "ninja changes," i.e. emergency config changes to production infrastructure, with no review or documentation. Loved working hero-hours, and lived for emergencies. He was (and probably still is) a brilliant technical engineer, with skills and knowledge far beyond mine.He was also a nightmare as a team-mate. 0/10, would never hire.

@gothnbass I feel your pain, I have met the same kind of people. The worst case is when they get promoted to management.

@ParadeGrotesque Funny you should say that: he was promoted to team-leader, and his direct reports were less than thrilled with his approach to that, too.

@ParadeGrotesque you can update the fortune call with the -a or -o option for "all" or "obscene".I used to do that when i ran slackware, i forget the details.
