@arstechnica For those questioning the involvement of the Department of Energy... They do a great deal of work on bio. (See, for example, the Human Genome Project conducted by Los Alamos National Lab, run by DOE: https://la-science.lanl.gov/lascience20.shtml). They are also one of the members of the US intelligence community.So yeah, DOE.
