@BigDuck anycubic photon, the one I've been looking at for a long time, depends if you want resin or filament printer - @BigMekgitt knows more about the practical side, has done some really neat resin prints

I'd go resin personally. You'll need to do the research to see whats gonna fit your needs and space in your home. Check out a guy named ben heck on youtube hes done a bunch of 3d printer reviews.

@BigDuck @BigMekgitt filament printers use spools of plastic or nylon wire to do layered prints, resin printers use synthetic resin plastic to print layers according to a 3d modeling program, after you print them you have to break off your supports, clean the resin print and cure it with a UV light machine to harden the resin

@BigDuck @BigMekgitt There are specific use cases for either, depending on what you want it for, and you can print all kinds of stuff - your main focus should be tray size for your prints, 3d modeling software you can use easily for your printer, additional machines you might have to get for the cleaning and curing of your prints, you want something that's budget friendly and user friendly, there are tons of great, cheap options, I'd say do a little research and wait for a big sale to save as much money as you can and know exactly what you want to get, once you do, there are tons of great resources for print files you can get for free or archives you can get access to

@PensiveCowboy @BigDuck @BigMekgitt yeah filament prints can't really be considered food safe because even if the material is fine, there are loads of little crevices for bacteria to cling to. and you can't exactly put a PLA mug in an autoclave

@BigDuck @deprecated_ii @BigMekgitt You have a lot of options, you can also print in resin and line the food contact surfaces with a foodsafe epoxy layer to create a barrier to bacterial build-up and also to prevent the plastic from leaching from an incomplete cure, it would probably be down to trial and error

@BigDuck @deprecated_ii @BigMekgitt they make a lot of really highly reviewed, relatively inexpensive products that play nice together in a system, I've seen tons of people who do modeling and dioramas and also 3d sculpture products, like masks, use their stuff to great results

@BigDuck It looks like everyone else beat me to the temperature resistance and bacteria problem. If you do end up getting a filament printer and need any help tag me with the rest of the printer nerds. I'm still dragging my feet on getting a resin printer but I've been impressed with what my friend's can do.

@BigDuck @deprecated_ii @BigMekgitt nah, you'd just do your print, wash and cure it and then use your workspace to mix your epoxy coating and apply it evenly across the interior of the mug to form a thin, even layer with an applicator or spatula, epoxies are extremely easy to work with once you have a little experience, and you can compare them to find one with a work time and drying/cure time that would best suit your needs

@PensiveCowboy @deprecated_ii Question 1 @BigDuck you want print for actual uses or you want like actual minis. The filament stuff is stronger material due heated plastic filament while the resin is just that liquid until product is cured then solid.

@BigDuck It should work fine, I know my friend did it that way before he got a lamp. I think it took a few hours in direct sunlight but that probably varies with the resin, pigment, etc. He's mostly doing small parts and molds for carbon/fiberglass.
