Today ChatGPT told me a friend from my college years went to Rutgers, died from cancer in 2014 after inventing Postfix, Python, Django, and Zope, and a domain name he hosted was a parody site operated by Mike Rowe before being taken over by Microsoft in a lengthy court case. He's quite alive, didn't invent Postfix or any other framework, never attended Rutgers, and the domain name in question (nothing to do with Mike Rowe) was quietly abandoned a few years of neglect and purchased by squatters.

@vees I’m curious, what was the prompt that elicited this flood of nonsense?

@wubfur It is a unique name. It is not confusing him with other people, it is making it up out of whole cloth.

@vees Interesting. I just tried it with the names of a couple of friends of mine. In both cases it got most of the broad outlines right, but also threw in extraneous details that were completely wrong.
