Dropped back in on Twitter for a moment and even though I don’t follow Elon, every other tweet in my feed is now apparently one of his for no reason whatsoever. @therobburgessshow If I were a billionaire I'd not do anything much at all, frankly - aside from quietly look for ways to get rid of most of it, by donating to and volunteering for causes, to keep me busy.Enough money to buy a decent house and not have to work again or be shackled with a mortgage would be nice, but beyond that?What's the point if not to spend it on lifting up others?

@BarrenPlanet @therobburgessshow A few billion could solve all sorts of problems -- wipe out several diseases, develop cures for others, finance research on numerous promising climate change technologies (perhaps fund several of the private fusion startups), create basic banking/loan system for the huge swath of folks who don’t have access, create much cheaper construction methods, especially for the developing world, etc. etc. Any would be a better legacy.

Note that I mentioned "causes" without specifying *which* causes in my comment.That's an open-ended question, and not one currently worth thinking too much about, given that I don't actually have that kind of money at present! It was a personal reflection, not a prescription for what another billionaire *should* be doing with their fortune.Everything in your list would be worth considering.

@theandil @ArrestJK @GrayRabbit @therobburgessshow You are not alone. I’m not a techie and it’s been a steep learning curve. I don’t even understand what the various features are. Their posts are all jargon and I have no idea what they’re talking about. It never says with X you can do Y and here’s why you might want to do it. #MastoAdmin My guess it’s a slow boat to turn, adjusting to a different set of users.

@abrasrose @theandil @ArrestJK @GrayRabbit @therobburgessshow I am a techie, so perhaps this is a bit too easy for me to say...but honestly, you don't need to understand all that stuff about ActivityPub, interoperable protocols, decentralised federation, blah blah.Just carry on engaging with others as you're doing right now, follow lots of people, boost content you like, post about yourself and your interests, and it'll all start to make sense by itself without anyone having to techsplain it to you. 🙂

You only need to learn what YOU need to learn.P.S. this community helps anyone who asks for it.
