I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as fediverse, is in fact, GNU/fediverse, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus fediverse. fediverse is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it.

Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called fediverse, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a fediverse, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. fediverse is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system,

but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. fediverse is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with fediverse added, or GNU/fediverse. All the so-called fediverse distributions are really distributions of GNU/fediverse!

@HauteEsoteric Have you heard of ActivityPub? https://activitypub.rocks/ - it's one of the "protocols" that is designed for networks like Mastodon but is also used by others like Misskey, Pleroma, PixelFed, and Akkoma. The "fediverse" is made up of all those different social networks because they are "federated" (on interconnected servers). It's similar to how someone on gmail can email a person on protonmail and they can talk to one another.

@HauteEsoteric if you click on the little "globe" icon in the upper left corner, it shows the "federated timeline," which displays posts from all the instances you're connected to.

@calculsoberic Yes but Iām slowly learning. If I stick around here long enough Iām sure Iāll learn. But since Iāve gotten reported more in one week than years on Twitter Iām thinking Iām too much of an agent provocateur and people on this site might be too you know āprogressiveā to be open to independent or opposing thoughts. Too bad. Weāll see. Thank you though. ā„ļø
