@cattailnu I couldn’t believe it wasn’t butter either, but that’s not why we’re here. I hooted the meeting here this evening because there’s been street hoots of a fight club. No cooing at the back! Pay attention!! Now, we all know there’s a no fight club policy within the ranks. Apparently there’s been a lot of crowing about it, so it is necessary to gander in coo-hoots to have it stopped. Rule number one is, you don’t talk about fight club. Ah…Meeting dismissed! 🦉 twit!

Like the snap of a trap, the hoots were silenced. Even Lieutenant Cattail was left hootless. “Good evening Owlmen” she purred, her voice felt like the caress of satin on their feathers. @cattailnu There's a painting at the Public Security Building lobby that everyone see every time they enter. It's called "Those who watch over us". Several birds, some dressed, some don't, stare right at you. Most people are frightened by those birds. Everyone swears that those birds really watch you. That painting make them feel defenseless. And that's the idea. That way they don't notice the myriad of cameras and microphones that monitor them everywhere in their lives…#WritingPrompt

Keeping a magician—especially a juvenile one—out of the morgue is full time work and I needed a break.Then that workaholic Alexander comes in, still dressed in that suit his wizard makes him wear. I'm up to my eyeballs in some weasel entrails and don't even hear him until he starts talking in that low, even voice about some world-ending apocalypse that's brewing. That I'm supposed to avert."F---ing can't you let me finish my meal first?" I burst out. Every head in the room turned and looked at me.

@cattailnu My partner and I arrived at the CaHoots club at 3:15 AM. Officer Ruffel was already on the scene. Most witnesses weren't wearing clothes. The only evidence was a small stain on the floor near the bar. The low-level lighting made it difficult to be sure, but I knew it was blood.Pointing to it, I said, "Go tell the lab that's the top priority".Wilcox nodded, "What about the witnesses?""Don't kid yourself. No one here gives a hoot for one dead snake."The crowd slowly looked at me.

Prohibition is back. The "moral majority" impressing their so called values on the rest of us. Some protested, at the start. Most shrugged their shoulders. I just wanted a drink.They do not call a gin-joint "speakeasy" any more. That is too old fashioned, I suppose. But the new name puzzled me. Why was a drinking den now called a "nest"? Not that it mattered. So, I made a few discreet enquiries. Yesterday, in the street, someone pressed a piece of paper into my palm. An address, with a drawing of a feather. I decided I would take the chance. My act of rebellion against the oppressors.The door was down steps, a basement entrance. I only had to wait seconds before the door was opened. The man who had passed me the paper. No questions needed. He ushered me down a dark corridor to a room with the word "Bar" attached on a sticky-note.It took a while for my eyes to adjust - even the corridor was light in comparison. The sounds confused me as I waited to see, peering into the shadows. Then, I felt a cold shudder as I saw those callous eyes, shining beaks and the razor sharp talons. They were huge, and hungry. My only hope was to offer my services - to promise to bring new flesh to a fate the prohibitionists had never even considered, in reward for my life, and some foul liquor distilled from the blood of my species.
