Convert all flac files in the current folder to mp3 format, then delete the original flac files:find . -name "*.flac" -exec ffmpeg -i {} -ab 160k -map_metadata 0 -id3v2_version 3 {}.mp3 \; -exec rm {} \;(assuming you have ffmpeg installed)

@wolf480pl Because (A) I am not an audiophile and (B) I usually carry my music with me, offline, on my smartphone, and size matters.

@xpil you could just use opus and get 2x the quality for the same file size compared to mp3...

@wolf480pl Never heard of the opus thing. Will it survive me? MP3 format surely will so I'm sticking with it. Also, "2x quality" makes no sense here whatsoever as I hear absolutely no difference between flac and mp3 version so...

@xpil ok, 2x less file size at the same quality?Opus is the codec youtube uses, which suggests that most things support it. It's been around for 10 years and it's doing fine.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opus_(audio_format)

@xpil also, if you're really concerned with the files outlasting you, and being preserved for some museum or sth, I think not deleting the FLACs would make more sense.

@wolf480pl thanks. In this case I may consider opus as soon as Poweramp starts recognising it. Interestingly, it can play ogg / oga files but doesn't currently support them in the library.
