Is it wrong to want the power to go out for an hour? I'd really like to capture the night sky without all the light pollution. Now my neighbors have installed a dusk to dawn light further hindering my fun. 🤬 Not even the editing software could remove the light wash with the extra lights. Oh well at least the dogs enjoyed the extra trips outside.Have a great evening everyone! I'll be up for a while, my daughter's having another sleepover so there's giggling nonstop.#Astrophotograhy

@That_One_Guy @david shooting the sky like this is what has me wanting to buy a small property somewhere remote. Would be so nice to have a tiny cabin and do this to chill.

@tmcarrYes, that's the dream! Preferably up a mountain a bit and away from all light sources I don't control. The far north would be good too. @david

@That_One_Guy @david oh hell yes. The current goal is the north end of New Hampshire/Vermont but even that isn’t far enough. I’m here for it though.

@That_One_Guy I get nice crisp skies but lack the camera to pull in many good shots. Plus, I dislike the cold. I know places not too far away, that I could drive to, if we had a special event I wanted to try to photograph

@RastaI'm jealous. I'm in a town of 20K or so but only 15 miles from downtown St. Louis and I can't escape the light pollution locally. I'd love to go to Canada and shoot the sky at night, I bet it's amazing!

@That_One_Guy Those are taken in my summer home. It used to be, in the 80s, when you wished they had auto-delay on your headlights, you'd have to leave your headlights on to find the front door (and be sure there were no animals) and then the porch light to get back to the car to turn the lights off. Now, with less trees (many hurricanes) and LED streetlights, there's light miles away along the highway lines. But the sky is pretty dark

@That_One_Guy @tmcarr Light pollution is a real problem. There are kids today, born and raised in cities, and they have no idea what a real night sky looks like.Your images can help change that function!

@That_One_Guy @tmcarr My grandfather lived in a village of 300 people in Nebraska. You never knew how dark the sky really was until you spent some time there with him in North Loup, Nebraska.

@That_One_Guy @david @tmcarr Putting your phone down is a good idea in many situations. For example, when walking a dog. Put the phone away and be present with the dog, focus on the walk. Better for you, better for the dog.

@NycAuntieI'm actually out playing with my dogs while my phone or camera is on a tripod taking 4-10 minutes exposures. Not only has my new hobby relaxed me but it's giving the dogs many extra trips out in the evening. @david @tmcarr

@NycAuntie @That_One_Guy @tmcarr That's a good point. I hate the phone. Always have. If I have to do computer stuff, I much prefer a desktop, and not a phone or a laptop.Young people are living their lives through their screens and not through their eyes. The difference in learning is palpable and expressive.

@That_One_Guy @NycAuntie @tmcarr That's the right way to use technology -- machines can do the work! -- while you're having fun in real life.

@david @That_One_Guy @tmcarr I often see people who are focused on the phone, not their dog. They end up standing a lot. The dogs look bored. There is so much pleasure in a good walk with a good dog, and too many are missing out on this.

@NycAuntieI have a 10 year old lab who loves fetch. So usually the two smaller dogs run around chasing birds in the yard while Ajax and I play. Even when I'm walking the dogs in the park or the neighborhood my phone is at home. @david @tmcarr
