Dinner! Slow Cooker Brats in Beer. Surprisingly delicious. Just layered sliced onion,brats,onion,garlic cloves,S&P,dollop of butter. Then poured in a can of beer. Cooked on low six hours. 😋

@shannonsays Alternative: sear brats or kielbasa on both sides (after puncturing with a fork), then take the sausage out and deglaze the pan with either onions or thickish-sliced cabbage.Once all of the fond is disloged from the bottom of the pan, return the sausage to the pan, cover, and simmer until the sausage is cooked through.No salt is needed. The fond from the cooked sausage will be plenty salty.

@shannonsays I only recently discovered the concept of deglazing with onions, cabbage, and/or mushrooms. Wish I'd discovered this sooner.

@shannonsays how was that rude? I grew up hearing naughty children referred to as brats (rhyming with hats). Seems to me being slow roasted is a bit over the top as a discipline method. Did you not take your sense of humor pull this morning?

@shannonsays there are actually soy based bratwursts that aren’t bad and that, or seitan, might work well as a substitute. Or even soyrizo (vegan chorizo). It’s a bit friable though and might fall apart. The Field Roast bratwurst is pretty solid and could withstand long flow cooking

@shannonsays I went vegan about eight years ago and the culinary adventure has been so much fun. Making my own vegan cheese, seitan, mayo (super fast, easy and cheap). I do a lot of Indian and Italian cooking because it’s so easily adapted.
