In praise of SMS:* it is ubiquitous, almost everyone has it* no installation required, 'phones support it* if you have someone's number, you can send a text message, too* it just works* mostly instantaneous delivery* standard SMS is just text* non-complicated user experienceSure, it has some limitations, but, I still find SMS to be invaluable.#SMS

@fitheach absolutey. When i have to send a message to multiple people on my phone I just group SMS. Rather than opening the four different messaging g apps I'd have to use otherwise.Though been wondering about matrix bridges to just gather people in one place.

@kln Same here. I just utilised Matrix/ Element very recently. Liking it a lot. An SMS bridge is worth investigating.

@petrosyan Kind of did that years ago with Gnokii (and another one I forget the name). Vast majority of my SMS are to one person, or received from orgs, like my bank

@fitheach actually bought a fee 4G modems a while back intending to add sms-alerts to the homelab. Didn't realize some modems are more locked down than others... Still haven't cracked it, but one of these days...I think there are XMPP "bridges" and Mattermist has some as well. But yea, like you said, Matrix/Element is pleasant to use and interesting for a multitude of reasons so sticking with that for now. :)

@fitheachIt's the boring, plain-jane backup that always works when the fancy apps don't.
