if I were you, I wouldn't use a mastodon app that was VC-funded and made by someone who previously built and then abandoned a different mastodon appI obviously have a bit of a conflict of interest in saying this, but do yourself a favor and pick from the plethora of other good options

@shadowfacts Yeah that is not great. Especially if it's explained as "don't worry about having to pick a server" and not "we want you to lock you into our server so we can figure out how to make money off of you"

@antijingoist @hugo if you want my thinking, it's basically that VCs demand a big return—typically in the form of an exit by going public or being acquired. and to get there, you need to pursue growth above all else. it's a model that actively disincentivizes small, stable businesses that respect their customers
