@shibao Wait you need to update nextcloud manually even when it's in a container?

@scathach@stereophonic.space yep because it's all php it's all flat files that for some reason can't be upgraded automatically (at least with linuxserver's image)

@shibao Reason number 34523452345 never to touch PHP no matter how cool MediaWiki looks on paper

@scathach I guess OwnCloud took the right decision in just rewriting the whole back-end in Go instead of continuing to maintain PHP code.

I haven't had many issues *knocks on wood* running a Turnkey Debian Nextcloud instance in Proxmox. Been through several major updates over the past couple years. Maybe I've been lucky.

@tokenwizard@venera.social only had to run the updater like 4 times (it bricked itself like 3 of those times, amazing)

@tokenwizard@venera.social the linuxserver nextcloud image doesn't automatically run occ update on every container restart so you can get into the situation i'm in, i'm trying to see if i can get it to autoupdate like the name nextcloud image

Can you just cron a "docker exec" command to handle that?

@scathach@stereophonic.space @shibao@misskey.bubbletea.dev Nextcloud also doesn't support upgrading more than one major version at a time, and warns that the upgrade command is potentially destructive. I haven't looked at the code but whatever is going there has got to be unholy.

@shibao @tokenwizard@venera.social It's potentially destructive because nextcloud isn't capable of safe database upgrades, so basically no container will ever run it for you.
