Portland got hit with an ice storm 2 days ago.Road in front of my house got pretty icy.A traffic jam and hillarity ensued, some cars slid off the road, and many cars were parked on the side and abandoned.AND, somebody just abandoned his car in my driveway!!! Without asking me. We were obviously home, lights were on in most rooms.Fortunately there is enough room to pass.Nobody will tow away unless I can provide an affidavit that I gave a 72 hour notice!Tick, tock, tick, tock ......

@lola I used to have an old beater ford expedition.If I still had it, it would have been really tempting to push the car into the road, so the city would have been forced to tow it away.

@Viking @lola Not a suggestion: if you found yourself in possession of an extra catalytic convertor, would there be an issue legally. Again, not suggesting but a creative lawyer could argue it was delivered to you? It showed up on your driveway, wasn't claimed by anyone else immediately, you thought it was a package.

@melodiousowls @lola Law is pretty clear, I would need a license to get anything out of this situation, either license to store the car, or license to collect parking fees, in which case I need signage warning about the cost.

@Skizzle420 I have much more to loose than to gain, will follow the rules in this case, even though I disagree.Interestingly, vehicles on public land only require a 24 hours notice prior to towing in Oregon, while it is 72 hours for private land.Should be the other way around.

@Viking I recently had a locksmith make a key for my car I had lost while it was parked in my driveway. They didn't ask for any proof of ownership. You could do that and drive it off somewhere else. When the owner comes looking, tell them the county took it and you don't know anything.

@Viking back before I finally got my family out of PDX, we'd push about a car a month into the middle of road (they were all abandoned) so they'd get towed right away. It's the only way to make shit happen in outer SE Portland.
