I have zero malice towards trans people. Give them all the support we possibly can from the medical community. @feld @alex @flappypaddle for the sake of argument let's say i actually believed in intersectionality, assuming no other practical objection, philosophically it seems like concerns of cis women could be distinct from trans women to merit separate spaces. but for any particular space i suppose there could be arguments that the distinction is relevant or not. for things like rape crisis centers i believe the argument is you might feel bad about the presence of a penis but you should not, or at least your comfort on this issue is a lesser concern than also helping other rape victims. just spitballing here though this is outside my normal thought bubble.

I've only met one trans person (before it was cool) who didn't try to use their personal belief as some sort of forced stigma caused by men existing as a CIS HET normal-brain male.If you want to carve yourself up on the belief it will make you feel better, I'd wish you'd reconsider before doing so, but I have no right to stop you.I wish them the best, but they have no right nor reason to believe that by altering themselves physically that they should be allowed around women. There are now cases of transexuals getting women pregnant in prison; bits hanging out in front of children, et al. Who are these people to say it wouldn't be a trigger to see that? That women wouldn't feel safe around that? Especially when nobody is properly screening these things so it gives access to predators who can just say they are trans and gain access. Or they might be trans and a predator, I don't think they all are but no one is checking this (They should also be checking this with women). It's also worth pointing out that, at least where I am, the authorities don't care about women being raped... it is a politically touchy subject. So many women, especially young girls/teens, are being failed in the system and made like it is a lifestyle choice when they've been groomed... why add more problems on top of that for them?

Also hard to open up and maintain homeless shelters although those do exist. They can probably have a daily place to offer advice and support in places like towns/cities. Either way, I would support having places that can cater to more specific needs like one for lesbians. General services from people that aren't specialised don't tend to be effective I find. Part of the problem we have for mental health services too, with what is there. Too many generalised people that are clueless about the situation for people with specific needs and how to reach a point that they'd understand those needs.

You can have this approach for trans people. I do think they are vulnerable too. It is worrying how many get groomed and into really questionable situations. But then leave the women shelters for females. There should be shelters for men as well. Probably hard to get enough shelters everywhere, but I don't think that is an argument to not do this. Might be more of an argument to sort out charities that abuse their position and money.
