This is quite concerning, though: "we also reduce the ability for users to scrutinise the source in the Flathub build system that was used to build their application" #security #flathub #flatpak

@boilingsteam wonder if that's part of the reason why Canonical is removing OOTB support for Flatpaks

@linuxgamingcentral Because they have a competitive system, snap, and it's a clear conflict of interest

@boilingsteam I think that’s part of an acknowledgment of a current #flathub concern rather than a statement about a change with the new payment facilities.Gnome are admitting that app distribution via binary file is inherently disconnected from the original source code. The comment then goes on to identify mitigants they expect will be needed against this concern for flathub to operate successfully with paid for applications.

@boilingsteam That does seem a little concerning, but if they implement their screening well and warn the user that it’s a binary release (part of the security score) then I don’t see why not. 😄I think it’s all in all a very good proposal and will help convince developers to switch to Linux long-term. Funding is always a difficult issue with OSS, so adding an easy way to donate to developers will help underfunded projects tremendously.
