If #Mozilla #Thunderbird changes its UI, will there be a fork which keeps the old interface?https://blog.thunderbird.net/2023/02/the-future-of-thunderbird-why-were-rebuilding-from-the-ground-up/

@james Maybe someone should make a fork of thunderbird that actually works.

@splitshockvirus I also wish someone forked the Firefox UI right before it became crappy (Firefox 89). I tried to stay on Firefox 88 for the longest time but the browser stopped working properly so I finally gave in and upgraded to the latest version.Until then, I can tell you about what email clients I use, and that's Kmail and Neomutt. I use mutt-wizard to manage the accounts.

@m0xEE It only doesn't work with my Outlook account, funny enough I'm able to sign in and receive email, but am unable to sign and send via smtp. Maybe it's a microsoft moment but I ended up just going to outlook dot com to eventually send.I don't know but I need to eventually redo most of my personal computing mainly email and phone. Problem is that both of those are critical to account sign in so finding time to mess with them is not extended.@james

@splitshockvirus @m0xEE Maybe it's Microsoft's fault. They really want you to use Outlook but you can't install it on Linux unless you use the Web App.

@dj @m0xEE @james I just use OTP so I don't have to use whatever proprietary app. 2FA works with thunderbird. The issue is after that. And mozilla says themselves to downgrade to 102.6.*So in otherwords it's Mozilla's fault.

@splitshockvirus @dj @m0xEE > And mozilla says themselves to downgrade to 102.6.*> So in otherwords it's Mozilla's fault.Yeah because who knows if you can actually downgrade Thunderbird on your distro. And if you can, who knows for how long.As I mentioned earlier, I tried running Firefox 88 on Arch Linux, and I set pacman to not upgrade that app. It didn't last long because eventually Firefox was unable to load pages, even the New tab page was broken. What if Mozilla didn't have to comply with the change at all?

@james @dj @m0xEE Yeah because who knows if you can actually downgrade Thunderbird on your distro.I technically could if this stupid app didn't need VIDEO ENCODING

@dcc @james @m0xEE @dj No, that's going to break a bunch of shit because ffmpeg is needed in a bunch of other packages like web browsers.I could compile ffmpeg without google shit codecs VP8 and VP9 are actually nice.I could just declare jihad on all google shit, I mean I might as well because I'm already running ungoogled chromium, might as well remove their codecs. All becaus mozilla can't make a fucking email client.

@splitshockvirus @dcc @m0xEE @dj Guess you'll have to use a different mail client and use App passwords. (This diagram I found online helps.)https://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2014/07/google-redesigns-settings-page-for-app.html

@RL_Dane Speaking of #MATE, when #GNOME 40 came out, I was surprised no one had forked GNOME 3.38 so users could choose to keep the style of GNOME 3. I liked GNOME 3, and I was disappointed that no one had thought about forking it yet. I tried making my own fork (and it even got on DuckDuckGo!) but it didn't really get off the launchpad because I didn't know how to test it, and no one was willing to.
