I didn’t go to church today, but I am doing a little observation of Ash Wednesday with trout for dinner. I have never had trout before, so hopefully it is good!

@MegCC not a day of obligation to attend, but your observation of the fasting and abstinence is right on.

@MegCC Looks good! Trout is usually plump & a bit fatty, but very tasty.Enjoy.

@Kingstrum it was delicious! I will definitely be making it again. One of goals for 2023 was to try more types of fish. So far the only two I did not care for, tilapia and red perch.

@MegCC Tilapia is a bit flat for my taste & red perch I don't think is all that different from several others. Also, they're a bit "fishy-er" than most, so a lot of folks don't care for them. Not a bad idea, I need to get back to eating more seafood myself. Thanks for the reminder.

@Kingstrum @MegCC I was watching a Japanese man prepare flounder on YouTube today, and he started by putting the fillets in a strainer and pouring boiling water over them which drained into the sink as a preliminary step; he said this would make them "less fishy". I have never heard of anyone doing this before. After this preliminary step he poached them in a sauce.
