Neoliberal economics is built atop the delusional premise of perpetual economic growth. They have now reached the point of diminishing returns, which is why the governments of the West are implementing ever more dehumanizing measures such as corralling people into "smart cities", throwing them into tiny pod apartments, and forcing them to eat bugs. The ruling elite (you know who) grow ever more tyrannical and demonic just to make the GDP go up a tiny bit more.

@okuu @Weltanschauung That highway reststop is fine from any other angle. Probably a godsend to our meth addicted trucker friends.

@RatPoster @okuu @Weltanschauung Everyone on the internet gripes about how hideous these places are until they've been on the road for six hours without eating or taking a piss. I'm not saying it's Agartha or anything, but come on.

@chainsaw_appreciator @okuu @Weltanschauung If you had any experience with 6+ hour road trips alone you would see them as useful.

@chainsaw_appreciator @RatPoster @okuu the problem lies on the consumerism practice. No one ever said they hate taking a rest in these places.

@RatPoster @okuu @Weltanschauung The problem isn't that these reststops exist; the problem is that most places in America are like this.

People shit on these, but they're just the most efficient adaptation to a new technology (cars) and the building of the interstate system which was copied from the Autobahn but on a much grander scale. The U.S.'s towns used to be linked by a lot more passenger trains and you could get the quaint, picturesque town squares with a railroad depot and a cafe and all that shit, but the highway system made travel much faster, efficient, and individualistic. The ever-increasing demands on our individual time meant we don't stop for a night after a few hours on the road and take in dinner at the town square. You stop, get gas, food, take a piss, and move on to your final destination. It's a consequence of the time we live in.
