Can't they just taper them long term. I mean it's a different med altogether but I've been on high does long term steroids and they are getting ready to switch me to infusions instead and the doc has been telling me it'll take about 12 to 14 months to get off the steroids because they have to go really slow with it. So with the xannies is it just they fuck your brain up so bad even doing it slow is dangerous or most is it that most addicts just find themselves going from 50 xannies a day to none and their bodies drop?

The alcohol DT's and the Xanax withdrawals combined are extremely dangerous. If he tried to do it himself in his state of health, he'd go into tremens and hallucinations. His heart probably can't take it.Tapering off corticosteroids is quite different from alcohol and benzodiazepines. And you are at the Mayo versus some garbage Mexican prescription mill medical office.

If he's on coke too, coming off all that would be brutal.There are actually people so dependent on drugs and alcohol that coming off them is even more dangerous than their habit. They’ll kick an alcoholic out of a detox center for a benzo detox. That’s how bad it is. Seizures are pretty much guaranteed. Even if he somehow managed to get clean, he’ll spend his life having constant panic attacks due to how fried his receptors are gonna be. There’s really no way out for him. Dude has to be taking like 20-40 mg a day at this point. Tapering off prednisone is different. They do that to give your body time to start producing natural anti inflammatory compounds as you taper. There’s no unfrying your gaba receptors.

Not for him, benzo abusers are why people who need the medication have a lot of trouble getting it. Panic disorder is not great, and being treated like a drug addict because you need the meds doesn’t help.

@Jim @BASEDaccountDELETER @StaleDonut One reason you’ll have to be tapered of very slowly from your high dose long term steroids is that your body normally makes these in smaller amounts as needed. So the regulatory system and the glands that make them have to realize this and start making them again. I would guess this happens once the dose gets small enough, until then it’s just easing your body a bit at a time.TL;DR for the very long rest: Ralph is in big trouble and likely to come to a bad end, but with self-discipline outpatient, as in not in a rehab, safe withdrawal from benzodiazepines is a standard thing.There’s schedules for that, and from a high starting dose it’s a very slow process which may also require switching the drug. For example Xanax/alprazolam has a short duration, a half life of around 12 hours. Jordan Peterson was on Klonopin/clonazepam, much longer duration of around 34 hours.Reading one account just now, looks like Peterson was an idiot (I know, I know) taking a couple of depression drugs and Klonopin for a long time, started taking more of the latter when his wife got cancer, and then decided to go cold turkey which as has been discussed is a very bad idea.Apparently then restarted it and got paradoxical effects, as in opposite of what the drug normally does. We can assume he mightily confused the affected regulatory systems, which I assume is part of what led to the extreme treatment he got in Moscow.But if you’re not an idiot and of course this Internet … entity is both that and a bit lacking in self-control … if he’s on enough Xanax and alcohol that could take over a year (and I don’t know much about withdrawal from the latter, let alone both). @84Gav84 was perhaps lucky (young?) to not die from going off a 2.5x max therapeutic dose of Valium/diazepam in two weeks, except that drug has a big advantage for this of a very long half life, about 100 hours.A standard thing is to switch to a longer acting benzodiazepine if one is on a short acting one, Xanax three times a day for anyone who metabolizes it quicker than normal or probably normally is going to cause withdrawal symptoms three times a day. And one like Klonopin which has a high effective dose in its smallest tablet for most means switching to one with much smaller effective doses; from what I’ve read Valium is preferred for both reasons.This guy … two drugs that hit GABA, the other ethanol which one of my chemistry TAs described as “the least lethal alcohol,” is obviously in jeopardy. Which is no surprise, I mean, this guy travels to Europe to get beaten up on camera, when that’s not exactly difficult to arrange in the US???Oh, yeah, both these drugs, ethanol and benzodiazepines are ones you get tolerance to and quickly, so up to a point higher doses are required to achieve the same effects.Without a good reason IMO benzodiazepines as well as Z drugs like Ambien/zolpidem and anything else that hits GABA shouldn’t be taken for longer than three weeks, and two weeks is safer. Else you get tolerant and as described have to taper off slowly, which of course makes the symptoms you were taking them for worse. They have their places but are wildly over prescribed and of course abused.

@ThatWouldBeTelling @Jim @BASEDaccountDELETER @StaleDonut Hey buddy just saw the reply, I didn’t know how to check notifications.. I believe I was about 32 the withdrawals were the worst it was fucken horrible. Now im just on morphine (I have nerve damage in my leg from surgery)
