       @Paxxi @bradwilson @zkat good point. At the same time look at Russian patriotism. Even many “good Russians” are still convinced Russia is a great country. Are there really two (or more) concepts that we both call patriotism? One is a healthy love for their country that wishes no harm to anyone, and one is a blind, proud, almost religious faith crossing into supremacy, intolerance and nationalism? I feel like understanding this better can explain a lot going on in the world right now.

       @KirillOsenkov @Paxxi @bradwilson I am extremely skeptical about any and all cases where a person expresses deep love and devotion to an entity that has done so many horrible things, especially when those things go unacknowledged.There is no room for "healthy love" if you're looking away from that. It's just more "polite".

       @zkat @Paxxi @bradwilson to clarify, I think Russian patriotism is toxic, anyone who says Russia is a great country in 2023 is brainwashed and in a cult. It’s the same white nationalism as in the US. A very clear example of bad patriotism.

       @Paxxi @bradwilson @zkat but clearly, a big part of patriotism is toxic, I’m trying to understand how much of it? I know someone Indian who loves India, I see nothing wrong there (but it’s immediately bad when it is accompanied by dislike of Pakistan, for example).
