afaik it means russia will be building more nuclear weapons. lots more.the US / china will follow suit. other nations, probably too.but the New START wasn't the only thing keeping the nuclear weapons from being built: they are expensive and require technical expertise -- it's a slow process to get moving. Uranium doesn't just come out of the ground -- it takes people, infrastructure to get it out of the ground and put it into working missiles. Also: there's the political detente -- the US is updating its stock, russia is updating its stock...both are making moves at a certain rate, spending a certain % of their GDP and this is closely monitored by both -- it's just one example of how measured of a response this is from Russia's standpoint -- they will probably continue at around the rate they are going. But they, and the US might not -- they have the option, now to just build without the pretense of New START in the way.one thing is very likely: uranium is going to get more valuable.Cameco $TSX:CCO is probably trading low rn for example

It basically means that, while paused, Russia will no longer honour the limits on the number of deployed ICBMs. It also allows each side to supposedly conduct inspections of each others' stockpile but from what has been said Russia hasn't exactly cooperated with the agreement, especially concerning inspections.In other words, if it's true that Russia hasn't been cooperating for quite some time, it's just more fearmongering.
