Emily Kohrs - foreperson for the Georgia grand jury that investigated former Pres. Trump, is talking maybe a little more than she should, but I'm not complaining. She tells NBC reporter Blayne Alexander they recommended indictments for more than a dozen people.“There are certainly names you would recognize.”https://twitter.com/ReporterBlayne/status/1628175235806556160

@Teri_Kanefield I was relieved to see in the AJC that she referred to notes from the judge outlining what she could and could not talk about. I wish she hadn’t done it and wish the media wasn’t so desperate to get a scoop but at least she’d checked with the court.

@Teri_Kanefield I read a lot of it, but I want to know why, with the most corrupt administration in at least a century, not a single member of that administration has been charged with anything. Ignore J6 for now, let's talk about perjury and conflicts of interest before 2020. We're 2 years into this administration, and the closer it gets to the 24 election, the more cries there will be about charges being political. The cases don't have to be perfect, but there has to be some accountability.

@Teri_Kanefield She seems to be very young. She's never voted before, and apparently has never taken part in civil responsibility. She's giggly and coy and was the foreman? She gives her full name and doesn't seem concerned about receiving hate/death threats, either electronically or, God forbid, outside her residence or place of employment. That seems irresponsible to me. I think she probably doesn't fully appreciate the gravity of the part she has just played in the fate of our democracy.

@Teri_Kanefield How does this work? The special grand jury/grand jury/indictment thing is confusing to me. If Fani Willis indicts persons must that go through a grand jury? If so, can it have been running alongside the special grand jury?

@Teri_Kanefield Sorry for missing this explanation. Maybe the question is: Can the DA make charging decisions without a grand jury? (We have no grand juries in Finland and Sweden. The prosecutors make all charging decisions here. Hence the confusion 😅)

@Teri_Kanefield #1: Why is the DOJ taking so long with the investigation into the January 6 insurrection? #2: Why didn’t Merrick Garland begin looking at the higher-ups involved in the January 6 attack until well into 2022?#3: A former prosecutor said so and a former prosecutor should know better than Teri #4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 - None of these address my question. My question is not about Trump or J6. Not every crime takes .2 yrs to investigate.Maybe direct me to your point that addresses my q.

@Teri_Kanefield I guess this answers my question 😅 “The federal government is required to use grand juries for all felonies, though not misdemeanors, by the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution. While all states in the U.S. currently have provisions for grand juries,[4] only half of the states actually employ them[5] and twenty-two require their use, to varying extents.[6]” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_juries_in_the_United_States

@bjornivarsson Sorry! I'm trying to do two things at once. Those are federal procedures. Each state has their own procedures, plus the feds have their own so we have 51 jurisdiction.See how annoyingly complicated it is?As I understand GA law from the documents, after the special grand jury issues its report, the DA has a lot of discretion. I think there IS a regular grand jury seated, but all of that is supposed to be secret, but there are clues.

And have DeSantis and Abbott not broken any federal laws with their political stunts? Yet SBF was arrested pretty quickly. Bernie Madoff was arrested immediately after his sons turned him inAlso, all those convictions you mention in the linked piece happened a lot quicker.

@Teri_Kanefield I guess I'm more than a little surprised she's even permitted to go on a media tour while these charges remain in consideration. Hopefully her taste for the limelight doesn't torpedo justice.

@kgoldsholl Actually I'll give you some study questions. Try to answer these questions:(1) Why might some crimes take longer to investigate?(2) Why might some crimes never be charged?Treat those like essay questions. I'll bet you can do it.

@bjornivarsson Yes, I have it on good authority now that there IS a regular grand jury convened in Fulton County. (I thought there was, but my head is too stuffed full of details right now to recall them all).

@Teri_Kanefield @annabower @lawfare will ask a related question: does Fani Willis now present this evidence to a regular grand jury, who may or may not approve the indictments? Will we know when this regular grand jury is seated?

@Teri_Kanefield “We’re officially on Georgia-watch. There’s a new regular grand jury, the type that indicts cases, showing up to work in Fulton County this week. So it’s entirely possible that this could be the week to expect the world to turn upside down.” https://joycevance.substack.com/p/the-week-ahead-295
