Twitter blue and "meta" (Facebook) are charging monthly fees for "better reach" and "verification" but notably not for "ad-free service"Which of the following are you ever willing to pay for (from any company or group, not just these two)

@futurebird In principle, pay-for-ad-free is great. But when online ads aren't outright malware, they're still spyware, and even if they're not, they're still usually trying to manipulate you into buying something you don't want or need.Visibility is a perverse incentive. Tumblr has Blaze, but anyone else would be on the "we won't show your stuff to the people who asked to see it unless you pay us" model.Security/safety/privacy should be for everyone. No exceptions.

@linebyline I find tumblr blaze less offensive since blaze posts are marked as "blazed" and the culture is such that people who do it get roasted as often as they get praise and love. Getting to secretly increase your reach with no one knowing about it is gross.

@futurebird @linebyline I agree, though, amusingly, "blazed" makes me wonder what % of tumblr users grew up using "blazed" as slang for intoxicated (usually with cannabis, but sometimes other things).

@llewelly @futurebird @linebyline It would not surprise me at all if that was deliberate.

@futurebird Paying for reach is so depressing. Like, what's the point of following someone if you're not necessarily even going to see their content in your feed? Are you supporting creators if they have to pay Meta for every post, just so you might see it? And it's not like creators are paying for access. No, they'd have access if feeds weren't full of stuff that nobody asked for. They're paying to offset the revenue Meta could have made from selling that slot to someone else.
