World: Can the US please just use the metric system, instead of making up weird measurements no one else understands US:

@khoji @RobertMaguire the yard->nautical mile and the foot->nautical mile... don't equate to the same number of feet. 3x2x100x10 = 6080 is a hell of a measurement system.

@ghorwood @RobertMaguire I know. Quite a lot of it is specious, but still funny. Not my creation, btw.

Try picking up a corgi-sized chunk of osmium ---RT @yFactr@RobertMaguire_ The meteor is either the size of a corgi or as heavy as four baby elephants, it simply cannot be bothhttps://twitter.com/yFactr/status/1628087133037637655

@RobertMaguire I don’t understand what using analogies has to do with metric vs imperial. In non technical communication, analogies are usually an efficient and easy to understand way of communicating quantitive information.

@mandlebro @RobertMaguire yeah, exactly. The way it’s described, you can be pretty damned sure someone didn’t miss or add a 0.If someone told me about a 2 foot meteor that weighed 1000 pounds, I’d think someone missed something. “Must have meant 100 pounds or a 20 foot meteor.”

@khoji @RobertMaguire1. Very cool visualization!2. There's some problem with the nautical mile. One of the steps fathom->cable->nautical mile must be slightly off, or the n.m. is only 6000'. (I google) Ok, the n.m. is 6076', and a cable is *approximately* 101.3 fathoms.
