       Rephrasing a question I just asked in a thread:It looks like "hallucination" can mean different things in #AI research. I thought it only referred to random quirks in training data being taken as generalizable truth, but I guess it's more than that.So I'm searching for sources on the different meanings of hallucination/hallucinate in #artificialintelligence / #machinelearning / #datascience  - will add the #ChatGPT tag for post visibility (and because #LLM hallucinations are v interesting)

       @emma I don’t have a specific source but I believe DeepDream was the original context for this word

I'm not sure about the history of DeepDream — Wikipedia says it was released ion 2014, and this paper from 2012 discusses machine learning "hallucinations" :https://sites.astro.caltech.edu/~george/ay122/cacm12.pdf — could be that "hallucination" came from the research that led to DeepDream?
