@Tilopa @11thJeff Irrespective of the âismâ of the DAs, and irrespective of whatâs going on in Chicago, we have an open air drug problem, a store front robbery problem and an extreme homeless problem. People are robbing stores publicly in broad daylight and I donât know what the solution is. There is a reason why the previous DA was recalled, and I had not seen too much of an improvement. I had my car windows smashed twice already and I am completely frustrated

Copy the link from yours, search on mine, it shows up and I boost. Unless it doesn't âšď¸ So I had to reply, search for my reply, and that allowed me to see it. So it's not a permissions issue, just a search database issue. Oh well...

So are we saying we are fine to have open air drug dealers , public shop lifting and public car jacking as long as we donât have a hitler? I hadnât seen this kind of street and petty crime in Sweden, Denmark or New Zealand and I am pretty sure they got no Hitler ruling them

@Tilopa @stevemontana816 I share Steve's frustration, and I'm annoyed at the SFPD for not doing more as well.But my point was that even with the new "tougher on crime" DA, that's still not enough for Trump people (or more likely they don't know or even care) Because #SanFrancisco is all you need to say to get conservatives elsewhere foaming at the mouth. They don't care how much better or worse our DA is. It's just about the ~feeling~ of it all

@stevemontana816 @11thJeff Criminalize dealing, treat drug addiction as a public health issue, create a healthy job-market, with proper incentives, tackle homelessness, with affordable housing, hostels etc. Let the criminal justice system balance properly retribution with rehabilitation, raise the minimum wage, improve welfare, medicare/medicaid etc. For this, one needs enlightened leadership, more likely coming from progressives/democrats, than Republicans/Nazis.

@Tilopa @11thJeff We have to do all of these. We have to criminalize dealing but we also have to criminalize shop lifting . Store owners close their stores and move out of the city cuz they got squatters occupying their store front, or they keep getting hit by shoplifting. When businesses leave, guess what happens to number of jobless people. I do not have the answers, locking people up is not a solution or having a free for all like we have now is also not a solution

@stevemontana816 @Tilopa I have a suggestion: if the SFPD actually arrested drug dealers on the streets, tracked down shoplifters, gathered evidence to put a stop to vandals breaking car windows, that would be a huge step in the right direction. Check out these clearance rates (clearance = arrest, charge, fwd to DA for prosecution), since Brooke Jenkins got in, to the end of 2022:Each category is out of 100%. 7% of all car break-ins. @stevemontana816 @Tilopa And it's actually suspiciously consistent. Like SFPD wanted to make sure each category didn't go down too badly and then they had just enough extra energy to solve the one Human trafficking case and a couple more arsons (however many of those there were?), but otherwise they're just trying to keep up with last year. But this year so far they're putting those extra hours into rape cases, so I can't fault that. Then again that's 60% of 100%; I don't know how many that is
