Got my first follow request today that my instance thought it should block until I review the users profile. What do the rest of you do iabout these? The profile has 6.9k following and 3.1k followers, is pro Ukrainian, and retoots stuff from other users. I don't see any reason for the overabundance of caution from my admins.

@alandersen I look at what they post & what they boost. Then I decide if that is the type of information I want to see on my feed. If yes, accept the request, if not, decline.I have 6-8 topics to follow - humor, photography, fishing, sportsball, etc. Light stuff, little if any politics. If the new follower boosts stuff I don't want to read, I mute the individual boosts, or you can block all boosts from the follower. Editing you follows and posts makes for a better experience.Good luvk!

@GregArcus Thanks! That's some good advice! I didn't know we could mute individual boosts. I'll have to look into that, and filtering warrants a looksee too.Much obliged!

@alandersen I go through a persons musings and if I do not find anything that raises red flags I follow. Also I am always prepared to unfollow at the first red flag.

@Ulrich_the_Elder I've had to unfollow a few for those reasons too. Thanks for chiming in!

@GregArcus @alandersen I do that with all new followers, btw. There have been a few I blocked. Some were pro-Ukrainian accounts at first glance. A whole timeline full of other people's pics, with or without giving credit to photographers. I don't like that. Credit is not consent. Smells like copyright infringement to me – maybe not in bad faith but even so. I guess they follow so many accounts hoping that everyone will follow back. What for, I don't know. I'd say, protect your pictures.

@nellie_m I'm of an age where I don't much care about overly protecting my images. Watermarks can be seemleslsy removed in seconds. Small low-res images can be easily upscaled. DMCA takedowns are laughed at in many countries.I do think *posting* images without consent is copyright infringement, even with attribution. *Reboosting* images is fair game, for if you're on social media and posting your stuff there, you've supposedly done the risk assessment, accepted it, and are OK with sharing.
