@calculsoberic Same. I was going to mention that Xanax is from the benzodiazepine drug class.🤣 I've heard that it can also make some ppl feel incredibly lethargic. I'm of the mind that while medicine can be useful, I like to take preventative approaches whenever possible as a first resort (i.e., solid health/wellness practices). To paraphrase a Chinese proverb, the best doctors have no need to treat their patients. 😉

@authorclirwin So would I. Much of that has to do with profit, I would imagine. In my case, I feel that the meds I take help me manage my life, however. I don't *need* them to survive, per se, but it makes it easier to get through the day. However, I combine that with things like chanting nam myoho renge kyo. (Have you heard of that, by any chance?)

@calculsoberic One of my former friends once described it to me as taking away the bad thought and on another occasion he said that it made him feel true joy but I'd take that with a grain of salt.Whatever the effects, I know a good amount of people (friends as well as just acquaintances) who destroyed their lives and themselves by taking Xanax, so I wouldn't recommend that unless it was actually prescribed to you.🧵 1/2

@calculsoberic By the way since you were also mentioning shrooms in this thread:This same former friend was also very confident that taking shrooms would somehow help him and all it did for him was make him paranoid and feel genuine terror about meeting his friends and he generally didn't want to have friends anymore and lashed out at us for random things so idkI don't think that taking psychedelics is a great idea either if you have mental health struggles (which idk if you still have them)

@calculsoberic Indeed. The insurance company situation also complicates the issue, tremendously; it's a mess for both doctors and patients alike. I understand your perspective. There are valid use cases to be made for pharmaceuticals particularly when one's genetic and biochemical blueprints wreak havoc.

@calculsoberic OK, I see that if I make a general toot, permissions will reset back to the default of public due to my own global acct settings. So I stand corrected on that last part about default toot settings (save conversations in which the original tooter sets the privacy "tone"). For private accounts, I'm guestimating the default will be the exact opposite although I know it's possible for private accounts to toot publicly as well, which is useful for multiple reasons.
