       an under-appreciated dynamic is how perfectly progressive people have kids and then become reactionary weirdos. I think it’s an artifact of how the parent-child relationship in industrialized societies is a last remaining socially-acceptable master-slave hierarchy. rather than treat children like people w agency and identities, whose opinions and preferences matter and must be respected, they are treated like animals, or property. not-quite humans, to be possessed, trained, and controlled.

       people will say their reactionary preferences are to “protect the children” or whatever, but I think the status of a master in charge of owning and controlling another person (especially in the western-style nuclear family) does psychological damage and influences how they view and interact with all kinds of other power relationships in society.“if cops aren’t respected, what message does that send to my kid, whom I must possess/control?” etc.
