I had covid and had a tough time but I'm alright now. Cost an arm and a leg to get the asthma medication I needed when I needed it, was nearly impossible because doctors wouldn't see me while I had covid, but they also wouldn't prescribe me asthma meds without seeing me first! Almost ended up in the ER (which would've cost even more because I don't have access to healthcare here yet). Thanks so much Canada ðŸ˜

@lezpaulguitars Do you have access to the rent-a-doc apps, like K Health? Good for getting prescriptions for inhalers and the like.

@Hollahollara It was a situation that was made complex by me a) not having prescription history in Canada and b) needing nebules for my nebulizer which is apparently way less commonly prescribed in Canada and c) doctors hearing asthma + covid and immediately writing it off as something that is severe and needs an in-person evaluation. I used maple health if you've heard of it but I had to try 3 or 4 times before I could get a doctor to give me a prescription and he made me promise to see him in person after I got over covid (which I did) and that cost even more money. Total shit show, in the US urgent cares take covid patients so I would've been able to walk-in.

@lezpaulguitars Did you find you actually had to use your nebulizer when you had covid? I usually need an inhaler when I have respiratory sickness, but covid never manifested that way for me.

@HebrideanHecate I never thought I'd be in a position where I'm panicking because I'll have to wait in some huge line at the ER and pay thousands just to get basic asthma meds. Thankfully I'm fully recovered, I got covid at the start of January and I was down for the count for that whole month.

@lezpaulguitars Frightening, and will say it again, people here DO NOT realise how fortunate we are to have the NHS. They are way too complacent about it and also willing to carp and make noises re getting rid of it or messing about with it in ways not needed. We need rid of the useless resource eating managers and woke shit etc, but not the throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

@HebrideanHecate My issue is that it seems Quebec's laws regarding covid and how doctors should go about treating it seems to leave no choices for immigrants without healthcare other than the ER, regardless of the severity of their case. There's one doctor's clinic that does treat immigrants free of charge, but not if you're covid positive, and they were closed for the holidays when I got covid anyways lol.I called the health helpline for the province and they apologized and said my only option other than the ER was to call every doctor in the area one by one asking them if they'll take a covid patient after hours, because there's a few that do but no one knows which ones. I didn't have time for that, I needed help asap. Its crazy they would leave loopholes like this for people to fall through the cracks!

@lezpaulguitars I stocked up on my asthma meds at the beginning of the pandemic as I feared I would need them and not have them. (Mine is pretty intermittent, but when I need them I rather just have them on hand.)

@Hollahollara Yeah, I definitely needed it. I was using it bare minimum twice a day for the majority of the time I was sick but once I managed to get prescribed prednisone I improved a lot and only needed it once and a while. I was really hoping my experience would match a lot of other people's and my asthma wouldn't be effected but it was. I got it at the start of January and suspect I probably had one of the more recent variants but who knows. My wife doesn't have asthma that we know of and she also had classic respiratory symptoms and a pretty bad cough that lasted for weeks after we'd recovered from the initial sickness. Her cough presented in a way that was very asthma-like, I guess doctors are calling it "temporary asthma" when this happens after covid because its a little different than just a cough that lingers.

@lezpaulguitars That aggravating cough was a feature of mine, but the last time I had it (that I know) was a year ago. I am sorry you had to navigate the labrynthine medical care system while so ill. That is no fun.

@lezpaulguitars Oh! You may benefit from taking n-acetyl cysteine anytime you get this sort of illness, btw. Lots of info out there. Amazon is selling the capsules again, or you can cook the chicken feathers yourself.
