If you look at it in a postmodern view, it's distrust of the government, mixed in with being against either minority worship/troon culture/mass migration, against cultural erasure (only if it's European), and for marrying and having kids with those of the same ethnic group. Rural white men were getting pushed out of the livelihoods their families had for the last 150-200 years, went looking for answers, and decided libertarianism with a swastika was the solution because no one, Democrat or Republican, really gave a shit about their plight. The people that did show up and try to offer help and answers? The Posse Comitatus, National Alliance, Christian Identity movement, and so on.

Nazi Germany used marriage loans to fund families, for instance. it's not just rejection by the left that pushes the rural right, but also the fascist idealization of that demographic.

It's better to call Jean-Marie Le Pen a populist and nationalist rather than "far-right." Then you can praise or criticize, discuss and analyze someone's actual views rather than nebulous terms. Above all I would say the field of politics is inherently dishonest. Political actors will define themselves and their opponents according to their own propaganda strategies, not according to history or sociology. If you have strong political views, how you define yourself and other people is going to be determined by your own bias.

@theorytoe Objectively modernly, the "far-right" or "nazi" are either:A: Strong traditional values, often a sense of morality based on Christianity, that denies the satanic lies the government is pushing (however, they are labeled far-right or nazi to demonize them by said government, so that their objections should be dismissed and since they ARE evil, they should be discriminated against)B: Someone who identified with the 90 years of propaganda, the demonized image of Hitler and the NatSoc party, who thinks they want to do all the horrible things that have been attributed to them, who unknowingly promotes and affirms the emulation of those they claim to be resisting.C: (few seem to be in this bucket) those who wish to see a return of NatSoc ideas, like a labor based currency, celebration of your own race, but also the other races. And, also ideas like, protecting farmers from losing their land, or their rights. There appear to have been many good ideas that fueled the explosion in wealth and prosperity of Germany, that have NOTHING to do with their demonized image. From an objective secular view point, the world hated Germany and destroyed it, because of its success, Germany had in many ways escaped the crushing hold of the New World Order that was burn near 1900, and that was unacceptable.(The objective non-secular or Christian view point is, Hitler, and by extension that NatSoc's who worshiped him, wanted neither satan nor Jesus, and though by human standards they were men of integrity and righteousness, were destroyed by satan)

@toiletpaper @theorytoe @meso Wonderful essay, I just finished reading it. That he touches on things like Futurism, Ezra Pound and Julius Evola is excellent. The fin de siècle zeitgeist seems to have been totally forgotten about at some point and is only briefly touched upon in high school history classes today. I recommend everyone in this thread that is interested in learning about what defines fascism to read this. But the most important part of the essay is that it illustrates the underlying components of fascism. Though we've left behind the end-of-the-century mythology I see some of these traits popping across the political spectrum today in places where they didn't seem to exist a few decades ago.
