Since we are all speaking about #depression and enthusiastically praising folks for reaching out: the last times I reached out to family saying I was depressed, they scoffed at me and said “get over it”, so maybe we need to fix this capitalistic hell where being ill is considered something “wrong” with you, and also work on our bias on what mental illness is – and actually care for others, not just in the ways that clean our conscience momentarily. We need community.

@Paarsec Totally with you on that! Mentally illness is an illness just as a physical illness. Often its a disbalance of the chemicals in your brain. People would never tell a cancer patient to 'just' get over it. And it baffles me this is still said to people suffering from mental illness. I am all for creating awareness and fighting the stigma. Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. Its not like you chose it, it happens to you just like any other illness. 🌺🌺

@Krisss @Paarsec I always say "If I could just "good thoughts and happy times" my way out of it, it'd be sadness, not depression. There's a difference!"

@WestCoastChelle @Paarsec Yes I always try to emphasize too that sadness and depression are too completely different things! And also, like you say, you cannot change your thoughts out of it. If it only were that simple..
