@mia yo! I’ve found these carbon fiber extrusion, don’t know if you’ve seen this. Also, the same distributor sells steel profiles that you can screw to the underside of the X beam to solve that thermal expansion problem you were talking about. Have you heard whether people like the carbon fiber beams before? Sadly I don’t know enough about that stuff to speculate

@dunkalino@mastodon.social yeah meltbro is where i got the lightweight aluminum profile.i’ve seen people use titanium backers on their Y extrusions to counter the expansion… vonwange used to sell those before they shut downone problem is cf tubes turn soft at 60°C which is easily reached in a voron that’s printing ABS

@dunkalino@mastodon.social tbh the expansion isn’t that much of a problem in practice if you let the printer heat soak for a while before you start printing. i’m using adaptive bed meshing anyway

@mia aah ok yes that makes sense. Man, following you for a week has leveled up my printer enormously! Thanks a ton 🙏I’ve ordered the lightweight extrusion for my Voron Zero (based on your endorsement) and I’ve also been going through that tuning document they link on the voron documentation and found out that my printer can actually handle twice as much speed and acceleration than I was previously using!

@dunkalino@mastodon.social oh by the way, if you’re following the advice to not set your bed heater too high to avoid warping the bed: you can ignore that and just run it at 100%. it’d take a lot more than a household socket can deliver to deform that thick a slab of aluminum

@mia oh yeah you’re right. I was only looking at those Andrew Ellis tuning pages. But now that I’ve looked at it I can tell that the documentation is full of excellent stuff. So that’s where they keep all the community knowledge! I was dreading having to wade through discord or god forbid Facebook groups or Reddit. lol I’ve been roughing it out the whole time, just banging my head against issues till it clicks. Reading the documentation is way better 😅

@dunkalino@mastodon.social actually a lot of the documentation and knowledge is in fact only in their discord channelswhich sucks
