Basics: When an idea is obviously not going to achieve what it says it wants to achieve, perhaps its actual purpose is not to achieve that thing but instead to hijack its carriers into doing its bidding for other reasons. Such false objectives also help defend it by tricking those who might oppose it into tiring themselves out by arguing against its efficacy (implicitly conceding everything it’s built on) instead of simply recognizing it for what it is and focusing on tearing it out at the root.“That’s broken, can’t those idiots see that it’ll never work?” If it’s making those idiots do what it wants them to do in the moment then it’s working just fine, isn’t it? Consider that its failure to achieve its vague future goals is not accidental but by design.“Tearing down beautiful things won’t make uglies less ugly! Heh, idiots.” It still got those idiots to do the work of tearing down the beautiful things and demoralizing those who might protect them, didn’t it? That’s the real objective; it’ll promise its hosts whatever it needs to survive and spread to that end. The real kicker is that it also manipulated you* into feeling smug.(*Not you-you, obviously. Someone else. You already know all this.)
