If you want, you can move your Mastodon account from one instance (server) to another.Moving lets you take your followers, follows and some settings with you.1. Create a new account on the instance you want to move to, but DO NOT delete the old account.2. Log into your NEW account, go to Edit Profile > Moving From A Different Account, click on "create an account alias" and follow the instructions.3. Log into your OLD account, go to Edit Profile > Move To A Different Account, click on "configure it here" and follow the instructions.4. On your OLD account, go to Preferences > Import And Export > Data Export and download the settings and follows lists.5. On your NEW account, go to Preferences > Import And Export > Import and upload the lists you just downloaded in the previous step.After doing all these, your old account will redirect to the new one, and your followers will transfer automatically (with a short delay).#MastoTips #Mastodon #FediTips #Fediverse

@shackerI have my content set to auto delete after 2 months anyway.But being able to trasfer content would be a good option for those who do want it kept.@feditips

@vitali64sur @feditips I moved from Mastodon to Akkoma, that worked. Akkoma is a fork of Pleroma, so I'm guessing that will work too.

@abid Yeah those I don't know of Pleroma. Akkoma is very lightweight. It uses 2% cpu and 12% RAM on a 4vCPU / 16GB cloud server. Diskspace usage under 1GB.

@ruud Is running an Akkoma server very different from a Mastodon server, Ruud? I know what to do to run a Mastodon server now, but Akkoma looks very nice too and it will be just for me or maybe some 10 extra accounts.

@Ronald Well I run Mastodon in Docker, and Akkoma using the 'OTP' release. So that's different.It takes way less resources to run Akkoma...(If you like, you can also create accounts on akkoma.nl )

@Ronald @ruud I’ve noticed the activity slowing down lately but it’s not because there are few users on Akkoma since all servers are federated. Looks like the slowing down is everywhere. Am I right @Ruud , @ruud ? (By the way, are all the @ruud… accounts yours?) 🙂

@Ronald @apschmidt @Ruud@akkoma.nl Mastodon users can read longer posts. They cannot see any text formatting like markdown, they will just see the text. Any emoji reactions are lost. When you quote a post on Akkoma, a mastodon user will see it as a link to the quoted post. That’s what I’ve found so far.

@tedmn @waltercool_test According to the instance owner, some moderator did that wrongfully.Still, it was quite annoying to find an answer.
